General Information

The RESILAND Kyrgyzstan regional subcomponent operates under the umbrella of the World Bank RESILAND CA+ Programme, whose goal is to increase the resilience of regional landscapes in Central Asia. Established in 2019, the Programme provides Central Asian countries with a regional framework to increase the resilience of their landscapes through landscape restoration.

The Programme finances analytics and advisory on landscape restoration and supports investment projects in Central Asian countries, connected by a Regional Exchange Platform for high-level dialogue on disaster risk reduction and landscape restoration. The regional approach is particularly important given border regions’ susceptibility to land degradation, climate disasters, natural hazards, and poverty.

Overall Objective

The Project Development Objectives of RESILAND Kyrgyz Republic are:

① To increase the area under sustainable landscape management in selected locations in the Kyrgyz Republic, and ② to promote the Kyrgyz Republic’s collaboration with other Central Asian countries on transboundary landscape restoration.

This subcomponent specifically delivers Set 1 of Subcomponent 1.3 activities focused on building regional knowledge tools and coordination mechanisms applicable across all five Central Asian countries.

Specific Objectives

01

Online Catalog of Climate-Induced Disasters

Development of an online catalog of current and future climate-induced disasters of a transboundary nature in Central Asia, to inform regional governments on priority areas needing attention and mitigation action.

02

Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) Manual

Preparation of an NBS manual and guidelines to expand the use of nature-based solutions against mudflows, flashfloods, landslides, and other climate-induced events in Central Asia.

03

Regional Mudflow Mitigation Roadmap

Development of a regional roadmap for mudflow mitigation, including an investment plan to guide coordinated transboundary action across Central Asian countries.

04

Regional Coordination Activities

Knowledge exchange events, joint research initiatives, field visits, and training activities to strengthen regional collaboration among Central Asian governments and stakeholders.
